抗菌塑料是添加了塑料抗菌剂后具有抗菌功能的塑料，是一类在使用环境中本身对沾污在塑料上的细菌、霉菌、醇母菌、藻类甚至病毒等起抑制或杀灭作用的塑料，通过抑制微生物的繁殖来保持自身清洁。

抗菌塑料使用中首先要满足塑料作为基本材料使用时对其物理、化学、机械等性能的必要要求，同时要考虑具备抗菌这一特殊功能的要求以及由此产生的附加因素。因此，抗菌塑料要有良好的力学强度外观、化学稳定性，良好的可加工性。在抗菌性方面，要求抗菌塑料能够适应使用环境，并应当有高效、广谱、长效的抗菌性。由于抗菌塑料中添加了少量塑料抗菌剂起到抗菌的作用，因此要求所用的塑料抗菌剂达到规定的卫生安全性，并使终极的抗菌塑料成品达到无毒、无异味、对环境无害的要求。
抗菌塑料的广泛应用
在家电领域，抗菌塑料主要用于家电的按钮、封条、内部件等容易滋生霉菌的部位。冰箱侧重于门封条、内胆、果蔬盒等的抗菌，洗衣机下水管道的防霉、按钮薄膜的抗菌很重要，空调主要侧重于空调过滤网的抗菌，小家电侧重于与食物接触的部分和按钮薄膜的抗菌，厨房电器大多会在内胆涂层、按钮和把手上使用抗菌塑料。
